Giving Andy Rooney Credit

Andy Rooney started doing CBS 60 Minutes in 1979, the same year Projections, Inc. was incorporated. Coincidence, I think not...

I saw him doing his segment, "A Few Minutes with Andy Rooney" this past Sunday and realized two things almost immediately.

1) Andy Rooney is over one hundred and eighty-eight years old and

2) Andy Rooney is the original video blogger.

For over 30 years he's been presenting a 5-minute diatribe, witty comments, humor and even rants on every topic under the sun. It's just now he does it as a funny-looking hobbit. Perhaps this is why I write my blog instead of filming it.

Andy: "I don't like food that's too carefully arranged; it makes me think that the chef is spending too much time arranging and not enough time cooking. If I wanted a picture I'd buy a painting. "

I've got to hand it to him for longevity though, he joined CBS in 1949, that's only 12 years after CBS began its TV development and today at age 88 (okay, he's not 188 or a hobbit) he's still going. It made me wonder where will I be at 88 and what will Projections evolve into as the media we use to communicate to employees changes with the times. Video blogging and podcasting are a reality today in both business and entertainment. I'm sure you can download clips of Andy's most recent show via YouTube and your iPod (click on the link above to see Sunday's show). Are your communications with your employees as easily accessible?

In closing... Andy (on logistics): "We've sent a man to the moon, and that's 29,000 miles away. The center of the Earth is only 4,000 miles away. You could drive that in a week, but for some reason nobody's ever done it."

and Walter (on unions): "I gotta wonder... for all those companies out there that say "our employees are what makes us better than our competition," why aren't they communicating with them? After all, if they're not talking to their employees, who is?"

...and finally, a conclusion is the place where you got tired of thinking.
